Peter Trenholm is one of those guys who refuses to let 'traditional' or 'classic' country music die. He has several ways that he keeps it intact. One of the things he does is a radio show that is incredibly popular, I believe broadcast from Nova Scotia. I received this album from Michael T Wall, who is a great Newfoundland promoter, but he too like Peter Trenholm are fanatical promoters of the original sound of country music that made it so popular in the first place. This album by Peter is a very nice dedication memorial to one of his heroes, Merle Haggard. One of the things that Peter especially likes is the unique twang sound of a Fender Telecaster guitar. He picks his way through this enjoyable album, perhaps not as efficiently as Merle, but certainly there with all the love and admiration that he so admires. There's a total of 20 songs on this memorable album. Peter must have spent a lot of time in the studio putting this all together. I'm sure he is playing the Fender guitar, but he is also adding his own vocal harmony to some of the songs. The 'collection' of Haggard songs is well representative of what made Haggard such a popular country singer, and recording artist, in the first place. Another thing that Peter Trenholm keeps 'traditional' country music alive, is to write about it. He does this on a regular basis up in that far Northwest country of Canada. I found one of the quotes he made on his album very interesting...."Merle and his family are followers of Jesus Christ, although in the music industry he was never a follower, always a trend setter and breaking new ground for artists that followed. This 'dedication' album is well over an hour long, and it's not only fun to listen to, it's full of that 'feeling' that Merle Haggard showed sometimes in his own vocalizing. I believe Peter had a fun time making this project, and I certainly wish him well on his continuing love and support for the music he really loves. Giving him four big stars on this one.
